SJP is not the only one to be "bitten" by the Steve and Barry's bug, apparently this company's got something all the others don't. Tennis star Venus Williams just launched her new clothing and athletic shoe line, EleVen, at Manhattan Mall's Steve and Barry's. The line is set to include track suits, puffy down jackets, denim jackets, and graphic tees, all under $20.00. The complete line will not be available until November exclusively at Steve and Barry's, but to get a peak of what to expect from the line, watch Venus at the US Open, August 27th, wearing pieces from eleven. Venus has plenty of experience in this area, she studied fashion design at the Art Institute of Florida and has worked with both Wilson's Leather and Reebok
Steve and Barry's does it again, high end on a low end budget...or so we hope.Visit the official site for more information: Eleven by Venus
Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker recently released a clothing line....One might expect Chanelesque line, but SJP shocked us all by creating a totally fashionable and yet affordable line. It's is called Bitten, and it's geared toward "women of all ages and sizes." And get this....it's only available at STEVE & BARRY'S, wtf? Why Steve and Barry's you ask, well I will tell you...I have no idea. It is cute though (not saying that all things cheap aren't, just most), so you won't be disappointed, annnnd, it's all under $20, as such is the S&B trademark. It reminds me of early Ralph Lauren, seaside/collegiate wear, but that's just my take on it. We actually have a S&B in the mall that sells everything for less than $7.98, I wonder if her line will be available at that location, poss not. We shall see, because I will be in there tomorrow! I do have quite the dilemma, and that is that I am a small size 0, so I can't really fit into any of S&B's women's clothes, which is why I shop there very rarely. The kids clothes do, however, fit just right for the most part...maybe a little shorter than intended... The line claims to start at size 0 and go up to size 22, so I'm hopeful, but I still can't fit Gap's 00, so I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. While the line itself is cheap, please don't be too duped by SJP's perceived benevolence, she is selling the line to S&B for an alleged $1-$5 million...wowza, who woulda thunk celebrities could be anthropologists too. I'm not hating, her line is cute, I'm just not sure it's millions cute.
Here's what SJP had to say about the debut of the line in June:
"SJP: What was most satisfying to me on the opening day was to see the preponderance of plus-size women and women of color. That’s what made me cry, and I’m not being treacle-y about it. People may have been disdainful about our clothes—well, it’s not for them. They have access. They have the financial or the geographical access to clothes. This is simple American sportswear, and we made the decision to size from 0 to 22, from 5 to 11 in shoe sizes.
What resonated for us on the first day is that women really got the point we were trying to make—which is you should have access to well-made, affordable clothes regardless of your size or where you live. It’s not this rarefied thing. Are we trying to do couture and red-carpet, to be Narciso Rodriguez and Nicolas Ghesquiere, for 20 bucks? Absolutely not."

This is my attempt at actually following through with one of my many ideas. I like to write, I like being Black, I like the internet, so I decided to combine all of these interests to create Black Girl Blog. I'm not promising that this will be an everyday thing, actually it'll probably only be a "really bad day" or "really friggin awesome day" thing. Thank the Lord for Firefox 2.0, because without a built in spell checker, this would read like the journal of an eight year old...actually probably not, since I am a fairly exceptional speller, thanks to late night games of family Boggle and Scrabble....good times. Anyhow, hello world, this is me.
